The Day the Rain Began to Sing is a translucent silhouette designed and illustrated by Vija Docherty for Conscious Craft — the April panel in our Conscious Craft Seasonal Series. It fits the Toverlux Magic Lamp and the Window Frame (all sold separately). Lit from behind, the bright spring rain scene shows through in soft colour.
Each silhouette in the series follows the turning of the year at the edge of Ashdown Forest, the setting for a short story we publish each month. April's scene shows Edith and JK playing in the rain, jumping through puddles beneath a wide rainbow, while Bracken the gnome and the hedgehog watch from the trees. The hawthorn is in full blossom, petals scatter in the wet air, and the ground gathers into small streams underfoot.
The scene captures the spring showers of April, when the rain wakes the woods and the first warm downpours bring blossom, leaf and birdsong together.
