The Morning the Ground Stirred Beneath Winter is a translucent silhouette designed and illustrated by Vija Docherty for Conscious Craft — the February panel in our Conscious Craft Seasonal Series. It fits the Toverlux Magic Lamp and the Window Frame(all sold separately). Lit from behind, the dark, pre-dawn woodland scene shows through in soft colour.
Each silhouette in the series follows the turning of the year at the edge of Ashdown Forest, the setting for a short story we publish each month.February's scene shows Edith and JK sitting in the dark woods with Bracken the gnome, long before sunrise. The hedgehog sits beside the children, the owl still calling, and the ground lies dark and wet after weeks of rain. Above, it is still winter; below, the first roots are beginning to wake.
The scene marks the turning point of early February, when the days lengthen and the earth begins to stir before anything shows above ground — the season the old festival of Imbolc once marked as the first sign of spring.
