About Lots of Lovely Art Glorious Gardens
A magical educational art box for children, with art projects, inspiration from artists and quality materials. In this art box, the projects look at how a variety of different artists were inspired by gardens – from their flowers, foliage, lawns, water features, vegetable patches and potted plants – and at the different styles and mediums they used to depict their floral retreats.
I perhaps owe it to flowers that I became a painter,” Monet once said. But Monet is not the only artist to have been inspired by a garden. Gardens and art have often gone hand-in-hand. From medieval depictions of the Garden of Eden to the ‘Dig (vegetable beds) for Victory’ posters of the Second World War, portrayals of gardens have conveyed a multitude of messages. They represent the very beginning of life; they symbolise love; and they conjure up feelings of comfort, calm and hope. Spending time in nature is good for the soul. And looking at paintings of places of natural beauty can also bring great joy and solace
In this box we look at how a love of nature, and flowers, trees, lawns, vegetable patches and potted plants have all been represented in the art of the likes of David Hockney, Gustav Klimt, Claude Monet and Jonas Wood.
