About A Year & a Day Issue No 23 Autumn: Spiders & Webs
A Year & a Day - A Waldorf-Inspired Seasonal Quarterly Magazine for Children
COMING SOON - Autumn 2025 edition.
Welcome to the World of Spiders and Webs!
We are often most afraid of the things we know the least. But when we begin to understand — even just a little — our fear starts to fade. Spiders spin their threads in silence. With patience and care, they build homes that shimmer in the morning dew. Their webs stretch across paths, between trees, under eaves — delicate and strong at once.
In this issue, we follow the thread through stories spun long ago:
The Spider’s Thread
A tale from Japan
Anansi and the Box of Stories
A folktale from Ghana
Athena and Arachne
A myth from Ancient Greece
We will guide you through many wonderful activities. You’ll fold a spider from a single piece of paper, build your cardboard loom and weave a colourful coaster, and even create a soft, tent-like shelter using old cloth and string, woven together just like a web in the trees. You might crawl through a giant spider web, explore how spiders build their silk homes, and mostly, you’ll learn why their world is more fascinating than frightening.
A Year & a Day is a seasonal quarterly magazine for children that aims to lead children into the realm of traditional stories and out into the natural world around them through craft, artistic, movement, literacy and numeracy-based activities.
Each issue includes three full stories, fifteen story-based activities and several additional seasonally themed pages, including recipes, posters and quizzes.
Printed on high quality, uncoated paper, especially for drawing and writing on.
