About A Year & a Day Issue No 26 Summer: On The Farm
A Year & a Day - A Waldorf-Inspired Seasonal Quarterly Magazine for Children
Issue No 26: On The Farm - Arriving 2nd week of June.
On the farm, everything is connected, even in ways that are not always easy to see. Underground, the soil lies quietly, yet it holds everything needed for life to grow. When it is rich and full, seeds can settle into it, take root, and begin their slow journey upwards. What was once hidden begins to appear above the ground as small leaves, then stronger stems, and over time, whole plants that fill the fields.
From these plants comes food. Grain, vegetables, and grass feed both people and animals, and life on the farm begins to unfold around them. Chickens move across the yard, pecking at what they find on the ground. Cows graze slowly in the fields. Each living thing depends on what grows from the soil, and each takes what it needs in its own way.
But nothing on the farm simply ends there. What is taken is returned in time. What remains after meals, what falls from plants, and what animals leave behind all return to the earth. There, slowly and quietly, it changes and becomes part of the soil again, enriching it and restoring what was once used.
In this way, the ground is continually fed, and when the time comes, it is ready to support new growth. So the cycle continues, quietly and steadily. What happens underground shapes what grows above it, and what grows above eventually returns below. Each part depends on another, and nothing stands alone.
On the farm, stories grow just like seeds, hidden at first, and slowly coming to light…
