Nature has been an inspiration for some of the greatest artists of all time. In this art box, we investigate flowers, especially looking at the art of Marimekkko and O’Keeffe; trees and forests through the work of Rousseau and Carr: and finally the power of water and the sea through inspiring artists like Turner and Hokusai.

Nature has been an inspiration for some of the greatest artists of all time. Whether it be the stunning colours of a sunset or the natural patterns of a pine-cone, nature’s complicated beauty seizes our imagination. Some look at that beauty and paint canvases or create sculptures to represent it; others use nature itself and actually turn it into art. Indeed, many of the mediums that artists use to create their masterpieces (such as wood, charcoal, clay, graphite and water) are also the products of nature.
