Playtime with Conscious Craft & Cara Whispers
Hello! It’s Cara here from cara_whispers ! I am Mummy to 5 and-a-half-year-old Bodhi (he’d kill me if I left out the all important half!). As a family we love to go on adventures in the countryside or beside the sea and we all play a part in our family business, which is creating sustainable cabins & treehouses for people to escape to the wild.
Our family’s favourite escape is to the North Cornish Coast and we were absolutely delighted to receive a Pirate Den Kit for Bodhi to enjoy on our most recent trip. Bodhi is the biggest pirate fan and as his friends well know, he loves to sing a sea shanty or two!
I really like that the kit comes in a very stylish cotton satchel with an old-school badge sewn on which Bodhi thought was super cool! The straps are fully adjustable which means we could make it comfortable for Bodhi to proudly carry on his own (which he actually did most of the time!). He wanted to take it everywhere, even when we just went for a quick dog walk down to the harbour! He said it made him feel very ‘Piratey!
We took the den kit with us on a day trip to St Micheal’s Mount with the intention of making a den whilst we enjoyed a picnic on the beach. However, after lots of giggles trying to put it up in the strong winds, we gave up & Bodhi used the wooden mallet on the stones and created a kite with the bunting instead! We have always opted for open-ended toys where there are endless possibilities for the imagination to run wild. This is definitely one of those toys!
The following day, the sun came out so we went on a lovely walk from Bossiny to St Nectan’s Glen. Bodhi carried his kit the whole way until we came to the perfect spot to stop for a picnic down stream from the waterfall. After sandwiches were gobbled down at an alarming rate, Bodhi set about making a camp fit for a pirate!
Bodhi (& the sausage dogs) happily played pirates whilst us grown ups had a heavenly hour relaxing listening to the waterfall until we all got hungry and it was time for another picnic! Although we weren’t invited in the den for lunch, we were however invited to help take it down as bellies were too full to go it alone!
