Christmas Craft Ideas For Kids - Clay Tree Ornaments
Snuggle up by the log fire and make these clay ornaments with your family. Ideal for all ages - younger children can help with rolling and cutting out while older children will enjoy sanding and decorating.
Use the instructions below as a guide and get creative with colours and textures. Glitter glue is easy to apply and adds a touch of sparkle.
Christmas trees look extra special when they feature handmade decorations, especially when children bring them out each year and remember making them.
You will need: Rolling pin, white air drying clay, festive cookie cutter shapes, foraged greenery & some string or twine.
1 - Roll out a piece of clay, so that it's smooth and flat.
2 - Place your greenery onto the clay and using a rolling pin roll on top. It creates a beautiful pattern.
3 - Using festive cookie cutters, cut out shapes.
4 - Once all your shapes have been cut, use a smooth stick, crochet hook or any tools you have handy to create a small hole at the top of your ornament.
5 - Leave your ornaments to dry overnight.
6 - Once dry, using a small piece of sanding paper, smooth out the edges, back and any blemishes in the clay you want to get rid of.
7 - Thread your ornaments with festive coloured twine & you're done. I personally like the simple, beautiful white ornaments but you can paint or add glitter before you thread.
