Craft Ideas For Kids - Pompom Hedgehog
Our newly discovered garden hedgehog inspired these adorable and super simple pompom hedgehogs.
Making pompoms is fast and easy for all ages with the wooden Loome tool.
My little one made her very own hedgehog with a little help from me. So it's an ideal craft to do together as a family. The hedgehogs also make great little gifts as we head into the Christmas season.
You will need: Loome tool, wool, strong string/thread, some felt, needle and thread, glue.
1 - Create your pompom using the Loome tool - you can watch this video by Loome or follow my instructions. Secure the end of your yarn into the teeth of the tool.
2 - Start to wind yarn around tool, not too tight or loose. Wind around 100 times approximately. If you would like a loose starburst pompom, wind it around 70 times. If you would like a really full orb pompom wind it around 150 times.
3 - When finished winding yarn, place the end through your tool's teeth and cut.
4 - Tie a very strong string down the middle of yarn, turn tool onto its other side and tie again, making sure it is tight.
5 - Remove yarn from tool. It should look a bit like a butterfly.
6 - Cut inbetween yarn (the butterfly wing shape) on both sides. Be careful not to cut the string in the middle which holds it all together.
7 - You should have a rough pompom shape. Using scissors, start to trim into a smooth ball shape.
8 - Cut some wool felt into the shape below. Don't worry too much about size, you can trim it to fit your pompom.
9 - Sew the two corners together.
10 - Sew some eyes in the middle, you can also sew small beads if you want them shiny.
11 - Cover base with glue and stick your pompom.
12 - Finished little adorable hedgehog.
