Craft Ideas For Kids | Pressed Flower Art

To make pretty, nature-inspired Mother's Day gifts, keepsakes, bookmarks, cards or pictures to hang on your wall, try pressing spring flowers. 

Experiment with different colours, shapes and sizes from flowers foraged in your garden or wild patch of land. It's a brilliant activity for different ages - young children can stick flowers randomly on paper or card while older children can be challenged to make an insect, butterfly or particular pattern. 

It's also a great way to introduce botany to your children. Discuss the different shapes, colours, textures and smells and notice the different places where the flowers grow (e.g. in dark places or full sunlight). Get a bit more scientific and ask your little ones to point out the petals, stigma and stamen.

 You will need: a flower press, glue, paper and flowers.

1 - Collect your flowers. Place them inside our large flower press. Once the page is full, place another piece of paper on top as well as cardboard and repeat the process. Once finished, screw on the wooden lid of your flower press and leave it for about 5 days. This was very frustrating for my little one as she was so desperate to open it!

After about 5 days, the flowers are ready to use. They will still have their amazing colours.

Using a glue stick, dab on to paper and start sticking flowers. They can be random or you can create a picture using the flowers. These make great Mother's Day gifts, birthday cards and wall art.
